Individuals do not remain in the same stage for the whole life. But rather, they undergo growth developments which transform them from one stage to the other. The beginning of growth is immediately after birth and death end the development process (Newman, Newman, 2014). There are four basic types of growth and development which are; mental, physical, emotional and social growth and developments (Pitman et al., 2011). Different schools of thoughts or developmental frameworks have been advanced by various scholars to explain the various stages of growth and development. Sigmund Freud, Erick Erikson, and other psychologists are among the common figures as far as developmental psychology is concerned. This paper will analyze the developmental characters of Mason Jr. in the Boyhood movie while basing on the Erik Ericksons points of view on the psychosocial stages of growth and development.According to Erickson, there are eight stages of growth and development (Newman, Newman, 2014). Erickson identifies that for each of the eight stages of development, there is a conflict which needs to be addressed for development to be complete. As earlier noted, there should be developmental milestones achieved at every level of development. Erickson suggests that infancy is the first stage and takes a period of one year from birth. Early childhood then sets in from one year to the time the child turns six. Late childhood, which is the third stage, takes place between six and twelve years, while adolescence lasts up to 20 years from twelve years of age. Adulthood is divided into three stages starts from twenty years until the time one ceases to live. Death is the final stage of life and is a stage that everyone experiences.3.0 Ericksons Development in ChildhoodIn the movie, Mason is in his childhood stage of development as the film starts. As time goes by, Mason advances from early childhood to late childhood until he is an adolescent. As per Eriksons arguments, there are some things that should be noticed as an individual grows. In early childhood and the late childhood, the physical growth and development are expected to take place at a faster rate as compared to that of the former phase. Mental development continues to take place and is manifested with short spans of attention, asking questions and recognition of some words and letters. Schooling starts at this stage because reading and writing skills can easily mastered. Erickson reinstates the importance of good parenting and the impact that a childs developmental environment can have on their behaviors, particularly in a social context. Its especially for the fact that children will learn most of obstructing concepts and ideas such as honesty and morality at this point (Pitman et al., 2014).Concerning mental development, Mason should have self-awareness and the impact they have on other persons. Impatient is evident at this level as children tend to get frustra tions when they try out things that are beyond their capacity. When children advance into late adulthood, they obtain distinct personality and find a lot of independence. As compared to early childhood, a child replaces fear and frustrations with abilities to cope. Social development is another aspect that changes. According to Erik, children advance from self-centeredness to a more sociable form of life. They tend to have needs of shelter, food, security and love (Newman, Newman, 2014). Activities that children have will also go directly towards groups that individual work in. In this stage, the young ones tend to conform more to the group opinions.Erickson suggests that the conflicts that one faces at this stage are that of inferiority versus industry. A child gets confused as whether they are industrious or not, or whether they are superior or inferior to others. Mason is expected to have some other forms of conflicts manifesting regarding initiatives versus guilt and autonomy against doubt and shame.4.0 Masons Childhood DevelopmentFollowing what transpires in the movie, Masons development conforms to Ericksons points of view about childhood in some aspects. The physical development for both Mason and his elder sister is well. Their mental development is as par Ericksons perspectives as Mason starts schooling in his childhood. According to Erickson, it is in this phase that a child learns the skills of reading and writing, and this is what Mason goes through when enrolled in a school. Mason seems to have compromised aspects of his emotional life, especially from the shaky relationship of his parents. Though Erickson suggests that at this stage, children are likely to be frustrated and will get hungry easily, it can be seen that the temperament that Mason develops is especially from the environment that he is exposed to. Mason is easily annoyed by small issues. The need for love and care manifests as the children get concerned when they overhear Mason Sr. telling their mother Olivia that he has no enough time to take care of them.According to Erickson, social development continues and should be achieved to a greater level. Some of the events that show Masons development in the social aspect of life is the point when Mason and his step-siblings share moments together and play video games with a lot of ease. The concept of group preference, rather than self-centeredness is what makes the boy and Samantha easily mingle with their step siblings. There are some developmental tasks that Mason needs to mediate at this stage. One of the conflicts that need mediation in this step is initiative set against guilt, where a child needs to find justification for the things they do. This conflict seems not to be fully solved as evidenced at the point when the boy watches Olivia and the tutor flirt. Mason has not fully realized his identity and therefore, this task not fully achieved. Its evident in many of the struggles he makes through schools, pa rents, and his girlfriend. Studies have shown that people who have their identities right will find it less difficult to cooperate with others (Harmening, 2014).5.0 Masons Adolescence DevelopmentThe biological or physical growth and development aspects of Masons life are okay. At this stage, his stature and voice have improved as can be seen from the movie and the changes in his voice. In adolescence, though the growth spurts have ceased, masculine development together with the formation of shape is expected. Another aspect that shows a positive development in physical life is his sexual life. Attraction to the opposite sex is one thing that implies a positive development. Mason befriends Sheena while in High School and gets a lot of attention from girls.Mason seems to face a lot of challenges so that some of the tasks and conflicts are not well arbitrated. Lack of proper parental care and lack of a stable family are some of the factors that led to the poor development of Masons lif e. In most cases, as studies have shown, incidences of bullying are rampant especially in cases when the bullied have a problem cooperating with others in a positive way (Pitman et al., 2011). The incidences where Mason was bullied are clear indications of the problems he has in his social life.Masons mental and emotional development is problematic. Mason must have had traumatic issues from the experiences he receives from his parents. In the first place, Olivia and Mason Sr. have a shaky relationship that ends up in divorce. Though Mason was young at this point, he feels the impact of poor parental relations, and this ultimately affects his adolescence. When Olivia enters into another marriage, the same challenges are experienced, which are more harmful than the first matrimony. Bill is controlled by alcoholism and is abusive to children. Childhood and adolescent maltreatment are among the factors that contribute to more of defiant cases in juveniles (Harmening, 2014).Traumatic exp osures that Mason receives, maltreatment both from Bill and his peers and the poor relationships that Olivia goes through are among the factors that contributed to the lack of conciliations of some tasks at this stage manifested in Mason's behavior and indulgences. By his fifteenth birthday, Mason had started using substances. According to research, some of the reasons for substance abuse include stress and anxiety, peer pressure, as a means of escaping psychological problems, and copying from parents or hereditary influences. All this have an implication that Mason's development, especially in the adolescents, has been negatively influenced by poor parenting, abuse, and poor environmental factors. The abuse and poor treatment he gets from school, poor social relationships,...

English Words Borrowed From the Chinese Language
Words taken completely or in part from another language are known as loanwords. In the English language, there are many loanwords that have been borrowed from Chinese languages and dialects. A loanword is not the same as calque, which is an expression from one language that has been introduced into another language as a direct translation. Many English-language calques also have origins in Chinese. Loanwords and calques are useful to linguists in examining when and how one culture processed its interaction with another. 10 English Words That Are Borrowed From Chinese 1. Coolie: While some claim that this term has its origins in Hindi, itââ¬â¢s been argued that it could also have origins in the Chinese term for hard work or è⹠¦Ã¥Å ⺠(kÃâ là ¬) which is literally translated as ââ¬Å"bitter labor.â⬠2. Gung Ho: The term has its origins in the Chinese word Ã¥ · ¥Ã¥ Ë (gÃ
ng hà ©) that can either mean to work togetherà or as an adjective to describe someone that is overly excited or too enthusiastic. The term gong he is a shortened word for industrial cooperatives which were created in China in the 1930s. During that time U.S. Marines adopted the term to mean someone with a can-do attitude. 3. Kowtow: From the Chinese Ã¥ ©Ã¥ ¤ ´ (kà ²u tà ³u) describing the ancient practice performed when anyone greeted a superior ââ¬â such as an elder, leader, or emperor. The person had to kneel and bow down to the superior, making sure that their foreheads hit the ground. ââ¬Å"Kou touâ⬠is literally translated as ââ¬Å"knock your head.â⬠4. Tycoon: The origins of this word comes from the Japanese term taikun, which was what foreigners called the shogun of Japan. A shogun was known to be someone who took over the throne and is not related to the emperor. Thus the meaning is typically used for someone who obtained power through might or hard work, rather than inheriting it. In Chinese, the Japanese term ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¹taikunâ⬠is Ã¥ ¤ §Ã§Å½â¹ (dà wà ¡ng) which means ââ¬Å"big prince.â⬠There are other words in Chinese that also describe a tycoon including è ´ ¢Ã©Ë⬠(cà ¡i fà ¡) and Ã¥ · ¨Ã¥ ¤ ´ (jà ¹ tà ³u). 5. Yen: This term comes from the Chinese word æ⠿ (yuà n) which means a hope, desire, or wish. Someone who has a strong urge for oily fast food can be said to have a yen for pizza. 6. Ketchup: The origins of this word are debated. But many believe that its origins are from either the Fujianese dialect for the fish sauce é ® æ ± (guà « zhà « ) or the Chinese word for eggplant sauce èÅ'âæ ± (qià © zhà «). 7. Chop Chop: This term is said to originate from the Cantonese dialect for the word Ã¥ ¿ «Ã¥ ¿ « (kuà i kuà i) which is said to urge someone to hurry up. Kuai means hurry in Chinese. ââ¬Å"Chop Chopâ⬠appeared in English-language newspapers printed in China by foreign settlers as early as the 1800s. 8. Typhoon: This is probably the most direct loanword. In Chinese, a hurricane or typhoon is called Ã¥ °Ã© £Å½ (tà ¡i fÃâng). 9. Chow:à While chow is a breed of dog, it should be clarified that the term did not come to mean food because the Chinese hold the stereotype of being dog-eaters. More likely, chow as a term for food comes from the word è Å" (cà i) which can mean food, a dish (to eat), or vegetables. 10. Koan: Originating in Zen Buddhism, a koan is a riddle without a solution, which is supposed to highlight the inadequacy of logic reasoning. A common one is ââ¬Å"What is the sound of one hand clapping.â⬠(If you were Bart Simpson, you would just fold one hand until you made a clapping noise.) Koan comes from the Japanese which comes from the Chinese for å⦠¬Ã¦ ¡Ë (gÃ
ng à n). Literally translated it means common case.

Fate vs. Free Will in Julius Caesar - 933 Words
In William Shakespeares play, Julius Caesar, two interesting forces, fate and free will, are shown competing for prominence over the other. Fate was exemplified in the many prophecies and omens the characters viewed throughout the play. Free will was the characters abilities to overcome and defeat their fate. Many characters have struggles with the power of their free will overcoming their fate, namely Caesar, Cassius, and Brutus. Although in the end all three of those characters succumb to their fate, Shakespeare shows that there is a delicate equilibrium between the two forces. Of the three men, Caesars fate seemed most obvious to him and to the reader. However, Caesar used his free will in many instances to in large part ignore hisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This stance is what required Cassius to go through so much effort to persuade Brutus to join the conspirators. He was forced to write fake letters so that Brutus could see a reason to act on Caesar becoming emperor. He also died through a form of apathy brought about by what he thought was his fate. The ghost of Caesar had visited him twice and had affected his rationalization that he told Volumnius I know my hour is come (V. v. 19). Through all three of these characters, Shakespeare has made a point to show that indifference towards fate leads towards permanent consequences, death. In Cassius situation, he was strong until that final point came, where he accepted his final fate. Brutus was never very strong with using his free will, but in the end accepted his fate much the same as Cassius. Caesar was never very strong in using his free will, but chose a nobler route to defying his fate. Thus Caesar declares: It seems to meÃâ¦it will come (II. ii. 35Ãâ"37). In other words, Caesar recognizes that certain events lie beyond human control; to crouch in fear of them is to enter a paralysis equal to, if not worse than, death. It is to surrender any capacity for freedom and agency that one might actuall y possess. Using all three of their deaths as an example, it seems Shakespeare was showing that free will must be used vigilantly, and if one was to let their guard down, fate will overcome all efforts ofShow MoreRelatedJulius Caesar : Fate Vs. In a monopolistic competitive structure, profit maximization happens when the value of marginal revenue is the same as marginal cost thus making output level lower than that of a perfectly competitive market. Further, firms will undersupply in this market structure.Noteworthy, the inefficiency in monopolistic competitive firms can be attributed to high prices set above marginal cost thus making these firms productively inefficient. Further, monopolistic competitive market is allocatively inefficient due to excess price of goods attributed to the excessive marginal cost. Efficiency could be technical, productive, dynamic, allocateve and economic.Notably, perfect competitive markets are likely to record high productive and allocative efficiency rates due to long term average cost curve as compared to monopoly and Oligopoly. Monopolies do set their prices at P which is greater than the marginal cost thus making it allocatively inefficient. Notably, allocative efficiency happens when MC cuts the demand curve making price equal to MC. Conclusively, Samsung is an oligopoly due to the existence of other firms such as Nokia, Apple among others (Loong, 2013) Further, there is product differentiation between the smartphone features produced by the different manufacturers. Moreover, there are entry barriers into the smartphone industry characterized by patents and economies of scale. Further, theres a strategic behavioral pattern and interdependence among the smartphone companies like Apple and Samsung. However, Samsung can be considered a monopolistic competitive firm due to the substantial number of other smartphone suppliers. However, Samsung could be considered a monopolistic due to its 57% market share (Loong, 2013) Notably, Samsung and Apple active competition has made them price makers rather than takers thus recording monopolistic profits.Primarily,Samsung has a larger market share as compared to other providers like Apple,HTC and Blackberry(Loong,2013)Notably, monopolistic competitive firms relative efficiency is based on market forces because they are the price setters of their products.Further, productive efficiency in a monopolistic competitive market depends on resource utilization. In addition, allocative efficiency depends on the equality of the firms marginal cost and revenue. In addition, efficiency depends on market share and concentration of the firm in question (Gambau and Maudos 2000) References Boundless. Creamlines Distribution System Essay Example
Creamlines Distribution System Essay Business! For Everyone! Creamlines ice cream products are indeed delicious, but you wont find them in your favorite supermarket. This is because Creamlines primary distribution system is the network of sari-sari stores scattered all over the country, says Martinez. As its contribution to nation-building, says Madrid, Creamline has come up the Instant Negosyo concept. For a small amount of money, a sari-sari store owner can be a retailer of Creamline products. All he needs to do is purchase P3,000 worth of ice cream products and Creamline will provide him with a freezer on loan. No expense. The only expenditure is putting the product. The content is P3,000. Of course, you must have a store and good location. In a way, we are giving jobs to everyone, says Madrid. This is a good business opportunity for micro-entrepreneurs as well as overseas contract workers looking to start a small enterprise when they get home. For those with bigger capital to spare, Creamline also offers opportunities for dealers (who take care of the retailers requirements) and distributors (who take care of the dealers requirements). Creamline also offers franchises for those who wish to sell direct to consumers via scooping stations. These stations should ideally be located in such high traffic areas as schools, malls, and bus terminals. Leaving no stone unturned, the company also started sending out ambulant vendors in selected areas.
